Hurricane Irene

We endured our first hurricane as a family of four.  August 28th Hurricane Irene swept across the western part of the stated, and we were prepared as well as possible.  We moved all of the big equipment out of the yard, and took down 3 of the 4 tents.  And all that stuff went to Dave's parents house.  We ended up staying the night before the hurricane in Stratford because we were worried that if we stayed in Oxford we would not have been able to get to Stratford which is where the business and most of his customers are.  So in the event we were stuck in Lordship we could at least start taking trees off peoples houses, etc.  Luckily we only got 3 or 4 inches of rain, and the max gusts of wind were 60 mph.  Up until the night before they said up to 12 inches and 80mph wind, so we were relatively lucky, and the tornado that hit Lordship took care of most trees, so there really were not many down from the storm.  Dave's parents never lost power, only TV, internet and phone.  In Oxford we lost power Sunday 3am and got it back sometime early Thursday morning.  Lots of water at the yard moved alot of wood around, so that was a real pain to pick up.  And luckily we decided to take the boat out of the water, because water was up inside the building at the yacht club.  Here are a few pics, which dont' really do the waves out in the sound justice, they were huge.

That is the runway at the airport

The white house past the brighter yellow house on the right is daycare....
Marnicks and the seawall is somewhere under the water.
End of Lordship Road, this picture doesn't do the waves any justice, they were HUGE!

In Fairfield somewhere, I didn't take this one.
I think we were flooded.
What is left of a Cottage in Lordship.
Along 95 alot of billboards were taken down in preparation of the hurricane

Water in the parking lot, and in the building of the club....not good.

This wood moved probably over 100', look how big this wood is.

This is only some of the wood that moved this far.  There was probably 3 cords of wood that had moved this far.  CRAZY...
